Reference Librarian

LIBRARIAN I – REFERENCE SERVICES – DORCHESTER ROAD REGIONAL LIBRARY: Full time entry-level position available for an energetic, team-oriented librarian desiring supervisory experience. Duties include: providing reference services in person and by telephone; may assist paraprofessional staff specializing in young adult services; planning and presenting programs, classes and outreach events for adults and young adults; helping to develop and maintain effective relationships with schools, community groups, agencies and non-profits that target youth and adults in order to plan and deliver programs and services; and developing assessment tools for community service needs. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of materials and databases; basic knowledge of modern library organization, procedure, policy, aims and services; elementary skill in the performance of library tasks; basic knowledge of youth and adult services; the desire to learn how to effectively supervise another employee; and the desire to learn and stay current with emerging technology, including digital media. Work within designated Cluster Structure arrangement on programming ideas and implementation of programming. Must be able to get along well with others and to communicate pleasantly and effectively with the general public and library staff, orally and in writing, and be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch/departmental operations. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise. Must have scheduling flexibility and a strong interest in conducting adult programs and community outreach. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work included. Must have the stamina for periods of standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending and stooping. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree; eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification; a valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record. Hiring Salary Range: $38,833.60 - $43,763.20 annually depending on qualifications. Closing date: Open until position is filled.
