Job Description

About the Library:
The Saluda County Library is housed in a historic building in the city of Saluda, the heart of a small county in central South Carolina. The annual budget is $209,000 and the staff consists of 3.5 FTE. Approximately half of the population are card-holding library patrons. Named for the beautiful little river that winds through it, Saluda County is a short drive from the capital city of Columbia yet retains its historic and peaceful rural character. The library provides strong children’s programs and candidates must show a willingness to maintain and expand these services. There is an active Friends group.

Schedule:
Mon, Wed, Fri: 8:30AM- 5PM; Tues and Thurs: 8:30AM - 6PM; First Tuesday of every month: 8:30AM - 8PM

Salary:
$26,377 with and increase to $27,169 after a 6 month probationary period

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs duties relating to the daily management of the library system, including, but not limited to, circulation, reference, collection development, and reader advisory as requested by the Director
  • Operates and uses various equipment including a PC, server, printer, copier, fax machine and microfilm reader-printer
  • Provides input to the Director as requested with respect to the selection of all library materials, both print and non-print
  • Catalogs and processes library materials, both print and non-print, as required
  • Performs maintenance and backup functions for library computer system and public access computers
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications

High school diploma and one to two years experience in a related field working with the public and teaching young children, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

  • Ability to assist patrons with their informational and recreational reading needs

  • Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology
  • Avoids duplication of effort
  • Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly
  • Implements work activity in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules
