Job Description

Full time position. Located on the fast growing and beautiful John’s Island, which neighbors Kiawah Island, known for being the #1 Tennis Resort in the world and Wadmalaw Island, home of the Charleston Tea Plantation. This person will manage the John’s Island Regional Library with oversight of three (3) branches within the geographical cluster to foster cooperation, training, shared programming and staffing. Reports to the Deputy Director. Works with other Regional Branch Managers and Department Managers to help achieve the vision, mission and goals of the Charleston County Public Library.

$50,065.60 - $68,078.40 annually depending on qualifications

Essential Job Functions:

This person will manage the John’s Island Regional Library with oversight of three (3) branches within the geographical cluster to foster cooperation, training, shared programming and staffing. Reports to the Deputy Director. Works with other Regional Branch Managers and Department Managers to help achieve the vision, mission and goals of the Charleston County Public Library. Must be a forward thinker with demonstrated skills in the areas of technology and innovation. Must be a strong library advocate devoted to providing excellent customer service to the community. Must have the ability to exercise leadership and be able to motivate others to achieve these goals.

Qualifications

ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree and four (4) years post masters professional library experience in a public library with two (2) of those years in a supervisory capacity. Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification. Must be able to train and supervise staff and possess the necessary skills to motivate staff to be the best they can be. Ability to write concise reports, analyze community needs, the needs of the collection, the effectiveness of services and be able to communicate those needs to the appropriate departments and supervisors. Must be flexible and able to assume any additional responsibilities to maintain branch operation. Must have extensive knowledge of library principles, trends and administration; knowledgeable of Children’s, Circulation and Reference services. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher a plus. Experience with SIRSI ILS preferred. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Evening and weekend work included.
