Job Description

General Description Under limited supervision, oversees management of larger branches of the library system. Manages operation of facility and directs staff members in providing assistance to library patrons. Responsible for scheduling, planning and budgeting. Provides detailed reference and reader advisory services. Plans and implements library programs, book clubs and events. Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates staff. Prepares monthly and annual statistics and reports as necessary. Participates in system wide staff instruction and training. Acts as liaison with Friends group, and as Director or Assistant Director in their absence. Job Duties Oversees management of operations and staff in larger branches. Supervises, evaluates, manages, hires, disciplines and directs staff. Assigns workloads and establishes work schedules, directs and supervises duties of assigned staff. Maintains standards and coordinates activities of staff, reviews work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy. Resolves patron complaints. Perform circulation duties including selection of new books and related materials, and disposition of outdated material Processes books and interlibrary loans for library patrons. Oversees collection maintenance and weeding of materials. Trains and supervises assigned library staff and volunteers as to policies and procedures. Provides reference services to the public, readers advisory and assists patrons with use of library technology equipment. Develops and implements library special events, book clubs, technology instruction and other library programs. Markets programs by distribution of new releases to the media. Assists in system wide training of staff. Management of book mobile and other outreach services including scheduling supply and operation of bookmobile vehicle. Monitors condition of library facility and coordinates improvements and repairs. Oversees building security and security issues that may be presented. Plans and coordinates budget expenditures and accounts for deposits received. Prepare monthly manager reports, statistics and general correspondence. Develops and prepares online and physical calendar material to be disseminated to the public. Serves as a liaison with community groups and media as required. Performs variety of other duties including processing incoming and outgoing mail, and other duties to provide assistance to the Library Director and Assistant Director. Interacts and communicates with Library Director, Assistant Director, co-workers, subordinate staff, sales representatives, Friends and other community groups, etc. Acts as Director or Assistant Director in their absence. Performs other duties as required. Salary Range $41,957.05-$62,936.09

Qualifications

Job Minimum Requirements Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited university or college, supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years library and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must be in possession of or be able to acquire a Professional Librarian Certificate. Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
