ILS Manager

The Integrated Library System Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, support, and administration of Charleston County Public Library’s integrated library system (ILS) supporting a variety of services including circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, serials, reports, external interface functions, and discovery, in addition to running both routine and on-demand data clean-up reports and performing associated record updates. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative under the general direction of the Access and Discovery Manager.  

DUTIES: Configures and manages the efficient operation of the ILS, including application performance, administration, maintenance, and upgrades to meet library requirements. Researches, analyzes, evaluates, plans, tests, troubleshoots, designs, coordinates, and implements all aspects of ILS interfaces and services. Documents and resolves system flaws. Tests and documents optimal practices. Works with vendors for ongoing maintenance, development and support concerning features and functions the library requires to maintain or enhance service. Maintains interfaces between the library's integrated library system and 3rd-party products, in-house developed products, self-service checkout, and web-based applications that require authentication from the patron database. May lead projects utilizing standard project management skills: work plans, charters, risk management, budget management, conducting meetings, documentation, etc. Generates reports for different stakeholders and departments within the library system (e.g., usage statistics, weeding/inventory lists, holds ratio reports, etc.). Writes status reports, problem reports, procedures, and detailed documentation of system processes. Writes and maintains complete and accurate ILS technical documentation and files for the use of ILS (e.g. instructions, procedures, and manuals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring system functionality. Performs other work duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Thorough knowledge of ILS software with demonstrated ability to perform operational process analysis and translate into systems requirements and specifications is required. Evidence of advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to construct logical and innovative solutions to complex technical problems is required. Knowledge of database architecture, record structure, and Boolean logic in creating queries. Experience with data management systems or operations preferred. Knowledge of library catalog organization, indexing, and filing; standard library operating procedures and terminology, related specifically to patron registration and materials circulation is required. Training/experience with library cataloging practices and library practices and procedures (collections and technical services, circulation, reference, in-depth understanding of bibliographic /MARC record structure, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree or equivalent degree and/or experience. Progressively responsible experience performing systems administration duties is required. Experience with SirsiDynix and Sirsi’s BlueCloud suite, including BlueCloud Analytics, preferred. Scripting experience using advanced techniques, along with experience with database design, reporting, and management and client reporting applications strongly preferred. Public library experience is preferred but not required. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel. Must use tact, courtesy, and good judgment when communicating with co-workers and internal customers. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, and bending. Must be able to lift library materials including books, AV equipment, program materials and maneuver loaded book carts weighing approximately 50 to 100 pounds. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus.

Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification.  

Hiring Salary Range: $46,945.60 - $52,873.60 annually depending on qualifications.
