Job Description

Reporting to the Director of the South Caroliniana Library, the Head of User Services/Curator of Published Materials at the South Caroliniana Library provides administrative oversight for all aspects of the South Caroliniana Library’s user services, including overseeing, coordinating, and developing the library’s consolidated reference operations, scan and delivery services, and retrieval system operations; and, in consultation with the Director of the South Caroliniana Library, the Head of Collections/Curator of Manuscripts at the South Carolinana Library, and curatorial colleagues, makes recommendations regarding the acquisition of published materials.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution in the US or Canada; proven experience working with rare, fragile, and antiquarian materials; at least three years’ work experience in an academic library in a public setting; and commensurate supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Second graduate degree in related academic field such as American History or Southern Studies; strong experience with searching in online catalogs; finding aids, and digital databases; knowledge of South Carolina history, literature, and culture; robust working knowledge of South Caroliniana Library holdings or demonstrated adeptness at rapidly learning the collection; familiarity with genealogical resources; ability to function in and adapt to a rapidly changing professional environment; and record of achievement in grant writing.
