Job Description

Reporting to the Acquisitions and Resource Management Coordinator, the Collection Development Librarian builds, evaluates, and maintains high-quality collections that support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University and is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in those efforts. This position also manages the assessment, title selection processes, and licensing of eBooks and streaming media services by formulating and articulating the direction and focus of the Library’s collections. The Collection Development Librarian provides direction for collection development-related liaison activities with academic departments and monitors changes in the College’s academic programs, degrees, and research emphases and adapts collection development decisions to meet emerging needs. This is a full-time tenure track faculty appointment and carries with it the expectation that faculty member will contribute significantly to the profession. Responsibilities include: - Builds collections that support a globally-oriented and diverse academic community, selecting materials for the library’s general digital and print collections within the constraints of the library’s materials budget. Consults with the departmental leadership and library colleagues on selection of e-book and streaming media packages. - Ensures the library collection is meeting the needs of the institution by utilizing and coordinating title selection plans (such as DDA, approval plans, etc.), by responding to faculty, student and staff requests, and by ensuring the timely expenditure of the firm order budget. - Assists in promoting new acquisitions and existing resources to the College of Charleston community. - Conducts regular assessments of the library’s core collections. - Uses relevant data and metrics to meet collection assessment goals and support library collection development decisions. Provides data for reports related to collection development and maintenance as required by the library, other university offices, and external agencies, including accreditation bodies. - Advises the Collection Development Committee on purchase options relative to collection assessment findings. - Undertakes research and/or professional development related to professional and scholarly interests. - Serves on library, college, and professional committees, elected and assigned. Hiring range for this position is between $50,000 – $55,000 annually.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program • Experience with an integrated library system, including the acquisitions module • Knowledge of 21st century collections issues for academic libraries, including emerging practices, standards and trends. • Familiarity with e-book and streaming media licenses and copyright issues • Strong commitment to building and nurturing positive relationships among institutional and library faculty with the ability to work in a collaborative environment • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills • Excellent analytical, organizational, time and project management skills. Preferred Qualifications • Competency in analysis, budgeting, assessment and/or evaluation of library collections • Experience in approval plan and/or firm order management • Experience in collection development in an academic library environment • Experience in negotiating with vendors and publishers • Experience managing statistical data and generating reports • Experience with EBSCONET, EBSCOadmin, GOBI, OCLC WorldShare, Millennium (III) or Alma (Ex Libris).
