Research Assistance

Reference librarians at the State Library are available to assist you Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except on state holidays.

Use our Reference Question Form to e-mail your question at any time. Questions will be received and answered during regular library hours. You can usually expect a response within 24 hours (excluding weekends and state holidays).

For live chat, click on the Ask a Librarian link at the top of the page.

Prefer instant messaging? Contact us at scslreference (AIM or Yahoo Messenger).

You may also telephone the Information Desk at (803) 734-8026 for help with your information questions.

If you have a question about library cards, book checkout, renewals, or holds call the Circulation Desk at (803) 734-8644.

Interlibrary Loan

If the State Library does not own the book or article you need, the library can usually borrow the item from another library through interlibrary loan. Contact the Information Desk at (803) 734-8026 to place a request.
