Laurens County Public Library Launches 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program

Laurens County Public Library announces the launch of their 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. The Laurens County Public Library will partner with First Steps in Laurens County to offer this fun and exciting reading program for children ages 0-5 years. This program was developed to increase awareness of the importance of reading to very young children as well as to encourage each parent to embrace being the child’s first teacher.

Event: Grand Opening of Allen University’s Langston Hughes Poetry Center and Library
Date: Saturday, January 31st
Location: Langston Hughes Poetry Center and Library/ 1329 Pine Street, Columbia
Time: Event starts with a continental breakfast at 9:00 am followed by Master Seminars by Kwame Dawes and Nikky Finney. Poetry workshops will be happening throughout the day. The event concludes with a reception and poetry reading by Dawes and Finney and an OPEN MIC! Free and open to the public.

Tri-County Literary Celebration Announced

The inaugural Tri-county Literary Celebration (TLC) and kick-off event for Berkeley Reads aims to recognize published authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties, foster interest in the arts, increase the number of avid Lowcountry readers, and connect writers and readers of all ages with published authors. Over 100 authors have been invited to meet readers at the TLC event in Dean Hall from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015. The event is FREE to the public, and the published works of local authors will be available for purchase.
