Dr. Nancy Zimmerman named AASL 2008 Distinguished Service Award recipient

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce Dr. Nancy P. Zimmerman as the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Service Award.  Zimmerman, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs of The Graduate School and an associate professor in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina, will receive the award at the AASL Awards Luncheon during the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim.

State Library Closed May 7th and 9th

The South Carolina State Library will be closed for staff development and training on Wednesday, May 7, and will also be closed on Friday, May 9, in observance of Confederate Memorial Day, a State holiday.

On Thursday, May 22, 2008, from noon to 1:00 p.m., the South Carolina Center for the Book located at the South Carolina State Library will host Bert Goolsby, author of Harpers’ Joy.  “John Grisham meets Andy Griffith a legal thriller packed with humor, heart, and a healthy dose of Southern charm.” Candle Reid's life is falling apart. He's a lawyer whose competence is compromised by alcoholism. His wife kicks him out, and then his law partner dies. Can things get any worse?

STATE LIBRARY NOW OFFERING INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS AND INFORMATION VIA TEACHERTUBE

TeacherTube officially launched on March 6, 2007 with the goal to provide an online community for sharing instructional videos. TeacherTube seeks to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. As well, it is a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.
