On Thursday, May 28, the SC State Library will go live with SC LENDS. SC LENDS (SC Library Evergreen Network Delivery System) is a group of SC libraries that have joined forces to move to an open source library computer system (Evergreen) and share resources. What does that mean to you as a South Carolina State Library patron? - It means that by December of this year when all 10 of the pilot libraries come online with SC LENDS, you will have access through your SCSL State Library card to more than 2 million items, including books, videos, audiotapes and more.

The South Carolina State Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting a drop-in for SC State Government employees for an inside look at how the State Library operates. The drop-in will be held on April 15th from 11:00am – 2:00pm at 1500 Senate Street, Columbia.

The South Carolina State Library is pleased to announce the selection of the most notable South Carolina state government documents of 2008. The selection is announced annually on or near Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.

The Library Services Department of the State Library will be offering short classes on a variety of library resources. These classes are designed to introduce state employees to selected library resources and as continuing education for public and academic librarians in reference service. Classes meet in the Computer Training Room of the State Library at 1500 Senate Street in Columbia.

Two shipments of state and federal documents have been added to the State Library. This month we received several more agency accountability reports (housed in the Documents Reference room on the first floor) and some titles on a timely subject: South Carolina economy. |
