From Hanukkah, to Kwanzaa, to Christmas - the Reading Rooster recommends some noteworthy children's book titles.

The Richland County Public Library broke ground on a $1.6 million renovation and expansion of its Eastover Branch, which originally opened in 1985, on December 7. The library facility, the first LEED certified county-owned/municipal building in Richland County, is expected to be completed in October 2012.

A $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, covers a substantial portion of the project. The remaining costs are covered by matching capital funds from Richland County.

The South Carolina State Library is pleased to announce Sandy Knowles as the new director of Talking Book Services.  Knowles replaces Pamela Davenport, now at the National Library Service for the Blind, and will begin on January 3, 2012.

Knowles was born and grew up in Columbia, S.C. and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Masters in Library Science. Her first professional position was with the Anderson County Library in Anderson, S.C.
