Applications Now Being Accepted for the Ethel Bolden Minority Scholarship

The Richland Library Foundation established the Ethel Bolden Minority Scholarship in 2010 in honor and recognition of Mrs. Ethel Bolden’s years of service to the Richland County community and its libraries. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded annually through 2017 and possibly thereafter. The scholarship seeks to encourage and provide financial support to students from underrepresented ethnic and racial groups who are working toward the completion of a Master of Library and Information Science degree at the University of South Carolina.

South Carolina 2013 Notable Documents to be Announced

The South Carolina State Library will announce the selection of the most notable South Carolina state government documents of 2013 at an awards ceremony held on April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the South Carolina State Library, 1500 Senate Street, Columbia.

South Carolina state government documents come in many formats and those selected include state agency publications, reports, magazines, and websites.  The selection is announced annually in honor of Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.

Winning documents were selected by staff of the South Carolina State Library.  All documents will be available to view at the State Library after the award ceremony.

Annual Literacy Leaders Awards Call for 2014 Nominations

Do you know individuals or groups that have had a statewide impact on literacy? Nominate them for the South Carolina Annual Literacy Leader (ALL) awards for 2014.

The ALL awards are presented by the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina in the fall of each year to individuals and/or groups that have had a statewide impact on literacy in South Carolina.
