Friends of the York County Library Honors Volunteers

The Friends of the York County Library recently announced that Nancy Coleman is the 2013 recipient of the Joann W. McMaster Volunteer of the Year award at a reception to honor Friends of the Library volunteers. The award is named in honor of Joann McMaster, who helped found the Friends of the York County Library organization in 1975 and served as its first president.

Join a Nation of Readers - The Big Read

The Big Read is accepting applications from non-profit organizations to develop community-wide reading programs between September 2014 and June 2015. The Big Read is a national program designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment. Organizations selected to participate in The Big Read receive a grant, promotional materials, access to online educational materials, training resources and opportunities. Approximately 75 organizations from across the country will be selected.

Access South Carolina Newspapers Online

Looking to keep up with local news from back home?  Did you know that with NewsBank provided by the South Carolina State Library, you can access local content from over 30 newspapers throughout South Carolina—from the Aiken Standard to the Hemingway Weekly Observer. Simply select NewsBank from the State Library’s list of Online resources: http://www.statelibrary.sc.gov/online-resources. From there you can choose a South Carolina newspaper to search.  You can also access archived articles as far back as the late 1980’s—depending on the newspaper title.  Access the news you missed!
