South Carolina Center for the Book Announces 2009 Award Recipients

The South Carolina State Library’s Center for the Book proudly announces the recipients of the 2009 South Carolina Center for the Book Awards for Writing, Teaching and Literary Arts Advocacy.  This year’s award winners are noted South Carolina author Leonard Todd, for Writing (Carolina Clay: The Life and Legend of the Slave Potter, Dave); Libby Collins of Dent Middle School in Columbia, for Teaching; and the Free Times, for Literary Arts Advocacy.

South Carolina Big Read Grant Recipients Announced

The Institute of Museum and Library Service (IMLS) in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) awarded Big Read grants to 269 arts, culture, and science organizations, libraries, and municipalities on June 23. Five selected South Carolina libraries and organizations will use the grants to host Big Read celebrations that bring communities together to read, discuss, and celebrate one of 30 selections from U.S. and world literature.

State Library Now Offering Employment Hubs

The South Carolina State Library is doing its part to assist out-of-work citizens find jobs.  The Library now offers two specialized public access computer workstations where users can create resumes, develop PowerPoint presentations for job interviews, search for State Government and public sector job opportunities, and much more.
